The Detroit Red Wings organization has announced a mid-season professional tryout signing in the AHL.
After a historic start to the season that saw the Detroit Red Wings’ AHL affiliate win their first eight games of the regular calendar, the Grand Rapids Griffins maintained their momentum despite an overtime loss and now have a 10-0-1 record, still at the top of the Central Division.
Today, the team announced that they have officially offered a professional tryout contract to a player from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
Red Wings’ AHL Affiliate Signs Forward to PTO From ECHL
In an official press release, the Grand Rapids Griffins announced that they signed Nolan Moyle – who made his AHL debut earlier this month in the game against the Marlies – to a PTO.
In nine games with the Toledo Walleye this season, Moyle has scored 10 points, including five goals.
Last season, the Michigan native, who played five seasons for the University of Michigan, also played 12 KHL games with Kunlun Red Star, where he recorded two points, including a goal.
He eventually joined Toledo later that season, where he scored six goals and nine assists in 32 regular-season games, before helping them in the playoffs with five assists in their 20-game run to the Kelly Cup Finals.
In his college days, he won two Big Ten championships with the Wolverines in 2022 and 2023, scoring 46 points, including 24 goals, along with 156 penalty minutes and a +15 rating in 164 career games.
Fans are eager to see what he can bring to the team and whether he can convince management to offer him a standard contract.
