The Vancouver Canucks are starting to heat up, almost fighting up back to .500, but is with Quinn Hughes having some the highest usage in the NHL, is the captain playing too many minutes to stay healthy?

“Injuries have unfortunately played a big role early in the season including with captain Quinn Hughes, who was unable to suit up in their road trip opener last Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes, but after finishing up the week strong on Sunday afternoon in Tampa Bay, the Canucks blueliner is receiving some recognition from the National Hockey League.”-Jaxon

Is Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes overworked?

Jannik Hansen was recently interviewed on Sportsnet’s 650 discussing Hughes’ ice time, while Hughes logs the most minutes in the NHL, Hansen believes he should be able to handle it as a defensemen.

While yes defensemen do play more minutes than forwards, Hughes plays almost half the game every night. And it is clearly affecting his health, with him missing games periodically. The Canucks need to be careful with their greatest asset.

Currently it is Hughes in first, followed by Zach Werenski, Travis Sanheim, Cale Makar and Miro Heiskenen to round out the top 5. Playing him that much has resulted in the Canucks finding a bit of a groove, but there is no way Hughes can keep this up all the way to end of the season. Not to mention he has the Winter Olympics to worry about as well, where the US team will rely on him heavily as well.
