Recently, David Kampf agreed to a contract termination to find a new role in the NHL, and Blues forward Alexandre Texier is seemingly set to do the same.
Alexandre Texier has been a serviceable player at the NHL level since making his debut back in 2018/19 with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and with that production, he earned himself a solid contract with the St. Louis Blues.
However, he’s found himself in a limited role with the team as of late, appearing in just 8 games this season, tallying just one assist in that time for a team that has struggled mightily.
Alexandre Texier looking for new role in the NHL
Now, he may be following the lead of David Kampf, who agreed to a contract termination with the Toronto Maple Leafs before finding himself a new role in the NHL, albeit on a much cheaper contract.According to Elliotte Friedman during his latest written 32 Thoughts, he reveals that Texier is considering doing the same as he prefers a smaller contract with a bigger role, despite currently earning $2.1 million per season.
Less than one week after David Kampf terminated his contract to stay in the NHL at a lower salary, there are rumours that Alexandre Texier is considering the same. He has played only one game for St. Louis since Oct. 28 and is making $2.1 million.
Texier’s best season in the NHL came back in 2023/24 with the Blue Jackets when he posted 30 points in 78 games played, but as of right now, he doesn’t look like that player when he rarely gets an opportunity with the Blues.
Only time will tell whether or not this is a path that he wants to pursue, but with the struggling Blues not being able to find a role for him, despite his $2.1 million deal, it’s likely that Texier is going to pursue other opportunities.
Following this report, it has been confirmed that Texier will be heading to waivers on Thursday, and if he isn’t claimed, the entire situation is likely to play out in the same way as Kampf, with the 26-year old set to find a new home in the league soon.
