Don Sweeney, who is the general manager of the Boston Bruins and Assistant GM of Team Canada’s Olympic team, is set to be in attendance at Thursday’s San Jose Sharks game.

Sweeney’s attendance could very well just be to pre-scout the Sharks. The Bruins are on the California road trip and will visit the SAP Center on Sunday. However, with the Olympic rosters needing to be set by the end of 2025, Sweeney could be watching Macklin Celebrini closely.

The Bruins lost to the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 on Wednesday and will face the Los Angeles Kings on Friday. Sweeney could very well be getting a close look at his team’s next two opponents.

Team Canada GM Doug Armstrong attended a San Jose Sharks game on Oct. 14. The Sharks don’t see the St Louis Blues, the team Armstrong runs in the NHL, until March 6, 2026.

Both Macklin Celebrini and Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard have made strong impressions on Team Canada’s brass this season. Elliotte Friedman suggests that Canada may not be able to leave either player off its roster.

At the end of the day, Sweeney will likely be at SAP Center for two jobs on Thursday. Watch the Bruins’ next two opponents and watch Celebrini play.

With the San Jose Sharks having their days between games be when the Bruins play, Sweeney could easily make the trip back up from LA to San Jose on Saturday to watch the Sharks and Celebrini again.

Granted, his team likely will make the trip up to San Jose on either Friday night or Saturday morning.

Regardless of the Bruins’ plans, Celebrini and the Sharks will play in front of a national TV audience on ESPN+ and Hulu. More could be on the line for Celebrini with Sweeney scheduled to be in the press box Thursday evening.
