The San Jose Sharks play host to the Los Angeles Kings tonight and while Sharks fans are certainly enjoying the Macklin Celebrini show and all the fun that it brings, some goals and points from other players might be nice. With that in mind, Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky is reinserting offensively minded defenseman John Klingberg into the lineup as well as Timothy Liljegren, who also brings some offensive pop. Klingberg, who sat out the last game was candid about his struggles.

A candid John Klingberg on what ailed his game, adding that he needs to put a leash on himself. “too much risk right now and not much reward.”

He’ll be back on the top power play unit as well with Dmitry Orlov moving back down to power play two.

While the Sharks beat the Utah Mammoth in overtime on Tuesday night, it was by no means a perfect game. The team will look to clean a lot of that up tonight.

On the Kings’ side, look for something different in the net. Darcy Kuemper is the Kings’ starting goaltender. He has a 7-4-3 record, a 2.42 goals against average and .904 save percentage. But, Kuemper was injured earlier this week and is currently considered day-to-day. That means backup Anthony Forsberg will get the start. Forsberg is 3-2-1 with a 2.96 goals against average and an .890 save percentage.

The Kings’ leading scorer is Adrian Kempe, who has 19 points in 20 games. Kempe just signed an eight-year, $85 million contract extension, so he’s sticking in LA for a while. The team’s top goal scorer is Kevin Fiala, who has nine goals.

This is the second of three meetings between these two teams this season. They first met on Oct. 28 when the Kings won 4-3 in regulation. They’ll meet again on Jan. 7 in LA.
