A “major business announcement” will be made on Tuesday by the company that owns the Minnesota Wild.

Minnesota Sports & Entertainment – the Craig Leipold-owned parent company for the Minnesota Wild, Iowa Wild, and the 317 on Rice Park event center – is holding a press conference at 1 p.m. at the Grand Casino Arena, formerly the Xcel Energy Center.

Few other details were provided to the media, and there is little chatter about the potential subject of Tuesday’s announcement.

Leipold has been in the news this year as he sought state funding to help with a $769 million revamp of the Wild’s arena, which was then revised to just under $500 million.

However, state legislators decided against committing $50 million in public funds towards the project, sparking concern over the Wild’s future in St. Paul, particularly with Timberwolves owners Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore seeking to build a new arena in the Twin Cities that some have suggested could be shared.

Leipold found support from St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter in seeking to remodel the arena, though Carter will be out of office come January after losing his re-election bid to Kaohly Her in this month’s mayoral election.

As well as owning the Wild, Leipold’s company is also the operator of the Grand Casino Arena, the TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center, the Saint Paul RiverCentre, and the Roy Wilkins Auditorium.
