Sergei Bobrovsky had all the answers in the Florida Panthers 1-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils at Amerant Bank Arena.
The 37-year-old veteran stopped 31 shots, including a handful of tricky redirections to post his second shutout of the season, and the 51st of his illustrious career.
Sam Reinhart notched the game’s only goal 12:58 into the opening frame when he drove down the left side after Gustav Forsling knocked the puck up the ice and cut inside of Luke Hughes before beating Jake Allen upstairs with a beautiful wrister from the left circle.
Reinhart, who has scored nine times in the last 12 games, leads the NHL with five game-winning goals.
New Jersey has played three games without leading scorer Jack Hughes and has three regulation goals to show for it. They lost both games in their trip to the Sunshine State.
After a crazy 8-5 win over Vancouver on Monday that saw Bobrovsky surrender five goals on 15 shots, the Panthers battened down the hatches and got back to PoMo hockey to move to 3-1 on the homestand, which concludes with Saturday night’s Stanley Cup (x2) rematch against the Edmonton Oilers. The Cats are three games above NHL .500 for the first time since they started the season with a three-game winning streak.
The Five Hole
Sam Reinhart’s goal extended his point streak to five games. He has produced four goals and five assists over the span. Reinhart is second on the team in goals (11) and points (17) behind Brad Marchand.
Speaking of Marchand, his personal 11-game point streak came to end last night. The Devils limited to Marchand to two shots and he was also credited with a block.
Jeff Petry logged 11:23 of ice time and blocked two shots while playing in 1,000th NHL game. Congrats on the milestone!
On the flip side, top prospect Jack Devine made his big-league debut and registered two shots on goal and two hits in 8:20 of ice time.
A.J. Greer played a season-high 14:45 and finished the tilt with three shots, two blocks and a team-high four hits.
