Lukas Reichel has shown promise as a former first-round pick, but after being acquired by Vancouver, the team have surprisingly placed him on the trade block.Earlier this season, the Vancouver Canucks went for a low-risk, high-reward trade when they acquired former first-round pick Lukas Reichel in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks.
At the time, the 23-year old was underperforming with a very talented Blackhawks team, but the Canucks were hoping that with a change of scenery, they could unlock the wingers potential at the next level after 174 games played in Chicago.
Reichel once again placed on the trade block
However, he has tallied just 1 assist in 13 games since arriving in Vancouver along with a -5 differential, and he has struggled so much that he was made a healthy scratch for the team’s last game.
Now, reports from Rick Dhaliwal have revealed that with both Nils Hoglander and Teddy Blueger nearing a return from injury, the Canucks are prepared to move on from the former No. 17 overall selection just a month after acquiring him.
That’s two teams now that have given up on Reichel after just 187 NHL games, and even though he’s shown potential, he simply hasn’t produced at the top level the way anyone would have expected from someone of his size and skill.
Now, we will wait and see whether another team takes a chance on Reichel, and after Vancouver gave up a fourth-round pick to acquire him, it’s likely that to part ways with him, they’ll be getting a much lower pick as he has not yet proven himself to be an NHLer moving forward.
