The Colorado Avalanche made history on Thursday night at Ball Arena.
They became just the fourth team in NHL history to have one regulation loss or fewer through the first 20 games of the season.
Colorado dispatched of the New York Rangers 6-3 thanks to their superstars playing like superstars. Both Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar had two goals each, Brock Nelson stayed hot with another tally and Ross Colton added an empty-netter late.
The Avalanche are now 14-1-5 on the year, good for 33 points. They join Montreal in 1927-28, Philadelphia in 1979-80 and Chicago in 2012-13 as teams to only lose one regulation game in their first 20 contests. Only the Blackhawks didn’t fall at all in 60 minutes, beginning that season 17-0-3.
And one more fun fact from the win over the Rangers is that goalie Scott Wedgewood got his first career point, an assist on Nelson’s goal.

The Avalanche have won seven games in a row and have easily the most points in the NHL. No other team is even past 28 and that’s the Carolina Hurricanes out East.
Yes, it’s Stanley Cup or bust, but we might as well enjoy the ride. This team is special right now — and likely will be all year. Surely, more history is yet to come.
