A big announcement has been made that involved Vancouver Canucks forward and pending unrestricted free agent Kiefer Sherwood less than four months until the deadline.
The Vancouver Canucks could be one of the more interesting teams to watch leading up to the National Hockey League’s trade deadline in early March, especially if the team is well outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference at that point.
“There’s a little bit of hesitancy; he keeps this up he’s probably in the $4m maybe $5m range depending on term, I think the Canucks are, or were anyway…weary…allocating those types of cap dollars” David Pagnotta said.

In a recent article for The Athletic, In a recent article for The Athletic, National Hockey League insider Chris Johnston revealed his top-25 trade targets to keep an eye on leading up to the deadline and while the Vancouver Canucks would certainly love to be in the mix for some of these players, one of their own has landed on the list – Kiefer Sherwood.
The 30-year-old Sherwood comes in at 17th on Chris Johnston’s list, with the insider saying that if the Vancouver Canucks were to sign him to an extension, it could maximize his trade value ahead of March 6th, with his current market value set at $4.6 million USD.
“After scoring a career-best 19 goals last season, Sherwood is on pace to smash that total in 2025-26 thanks to a torrid start. He’s an excellent skater with a good work ethic – well-suited to disrupt opponents on the forecheck. The Canucks haven’t shown any inclination to sign the pending unrestricted free agent to an extension, but signing him with a new contract in place would maximize his trade value.” Johnston said.
If Sherwood is able to continue his current level of play, that alone will certainly help his trade value over the coming months, with some believing that General Manager Patrik Allvin could net a first-round pick for him, if the club is willing to retain some salary or take back a bad contract.
In 21 games this season, Sherwood has recorded 15 points (12 goals, three assists), 16 penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
