Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube had the unfortunate duty of informing the media and fans on Thursday that three of his injured players could miss significant time.

Coming off of yet another disappointing loss, this time at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Leafs have shared some very unfortunate news.

Toronto is dealing with ailments to some key names like Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies, but concerns for their injuries seem low at the moment. For three other names, however, the news is not so good.

Tanev, Carlo, Stolarz Won’t Make A Quick Return for Maple Leafs

Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube provided updates on Brandon Carlo, Chris Tanev, and Anthony Stolarz on Thursday, informing reporters that all 3 players are dealing with more significant injuries and their timelines for return will not be short.

Stolarz has an upper-body injury and hasn’t skated since November 11th. It’s already been revealed that his injury is worse than first thought.

While Brandon Carlo is still a ways off, he could begin skating within the next week or so. When it comes to Tanev, however, Berube is calling his injury “long term.”

Tanev has played just 8 games with the Maple Leafs in 2025-26.

There’s no doubt that all 3 players have struggled this year, but there’s no question that the Maple Leafs are a better team with Tanev, Carlo and Stolarz in the lineup.

On a brighter note, Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews skated this week first time since getting hurt last week. There is optimism he may return to the lineup for Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens, but official word hasn’t come yet. If he can’t go on Saturday, he may be able to dress on Wednesday.
