The Maple Leafs seem to be enjoying the new relaxed dress code, as Max Domi and John Tavares use arena walk-in to pay homage to a Canadian icon.
There’s not much to celebrate for the Maple Leafs right now on the ice. Yes, they picked up points in back-to-back games, but another OT loss, this time to the Blue Jackets, has moved the team to a very underwhelming 9-9-3 record, leaving them in search of answers.
Domi, Tavares Show a Canadian Icon Some Love During Arena Entrance
Before this one ever got underway, though, Max Domi and John Tavares were the highlight of the game day arena entrances, sharing a heartwarming nod to Canadian icon Terry Fox, whose “Marathon of Hope” inspired not only an entire nation, but many around the world.
Tavares and Domi were spotted entering Scotiabank Arena on Thursday donning Terry Fox shirts with the words “Finish It” written in bold across the chest, with an image of Fox blended into the words.
After having his leg amputated, Terry Fox, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, began his Marathon of Hope on April 12th, 1980 with the goal of raising funds and awareness for cancer research. He ran across the country for 143 days before his passing in June of 1981.
NHL Players Loving New Relaxed Dress Code
For Domi and Tavares, it’s not uncommon to support various causes, wearing suitable apparel to do so on game days. The NHL’s new relaxed dress code has allowed players to not only show a little bit more of their individuality, but also show their support for different initiatives and events.
Last month, we saw multiple Maple Leafs rep their Blue Jays gear for the MLB team’s run to the World Series. This month, it’s nice to see the players using their platform to show support for cancer research and fundraising.
The term “Finish It” also carries some significance for the Maple Leafs as well, as the team looks to end a near six-decade-long Stanley Cup drought. Let’s hope they can get inspired to turn their season around.
