The Philadelphia Flyers (10-6-3) conclude a short two-game homestand on Saturday when they host the New Jersey Devils (13-6-1) at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Philadelphia is coming fresh off an overtime win against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. It’s the fourth overtime game in five games. The Flyers are 2-1-2 in that stretch, with both wins coming against the Blues.

New Jersey has been hit by the injury bug, losing centers Jack Hughes and Cody Glass, along with other contributors. Like the Flyers, the Devils are no strangers to overtime, with three of their last five games going to overtime and a 2-2-1 record in that span.

Despite the recent injury issues, the Devils are still a very talented team and should provide a tough challenge for the Flyers on Saturday.

The puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. EST at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Here is how the Flyers are expected to line up.

Things to Watch

There may be no bigger headline for the Flyers entering Saturday’s game than their new second pair. Emil Andrae is expected to play with Jamie Drysdale in a top-four role on Saturday. At Friday’s practice, some insight was provided as to how this could work. Whether or not they execute those things, well, that is for Saturday to show. A close eye will be kept on that second pair.

Speaking of the defense, based on the morning skate, as well as practice pairs from Friday, it seems as if Noah Juulsen will be taking a seat, and Egor Zamula will draw in to the lineup. Juulsen has played in every game so far this season. Thursday was undoubtedly one of his worst this season. However, this seems more like a rest game for Juulsen, and an opportunity to get Zamula a game than a performance-related one.

Dan Vladar is getting back-to-back starts once again. It seems like every time he has a chance to really run away with the net, Vladar lets Ersson keep the competition alive. Let’s see if he can string two great games together in a row.

As for the forwards, Rick Tocchet would not comment on any lineup changes, saying there are some guys that are a little banged up, as there are some game-time decisions. Tyson Foerster and Owen Tippett missed Friday’s practice. As for Nikita Grebenkin, he was one of the first and last Flyers on the ice during the optional skate. So, unless one of the “banged up” players cannot go, it looks like Nick Deslauriers will remain in the lineup.

Previous Matchups

The Philadelphia Flyers split the season series with the Devils last year, going 2-2-0, with every game ending in regulation. Three of the four games were decided by two goals.

Last season, Travis Konecny led the Flyers in points vs. the Devils with four, a goal, and three assists. Only Bobby Brink scored multiple goals against New Jersey last season, scoring two.

A plethora of Devils were tied for the team lead in points against the Flyers last season, with three, including the brothers Hughes, Timo Meier, and Jesper Bratt. The Devils will be without Jack Hughes in Saturday’s contest. However, it was Dougie Hamilton and Dawson Mercer who led New Jersey in goals against Philly last season with two.
