The Vancouver Canucks reportedly rejected a trade offer over the summer that would’ve sent Latvian goaltender Arturs Silovs to the club’s biggest rival.With Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen locked up for the foreseeable future and Arturs Silovs requiring waivers to be assigned to the American Hockey League, the Vancouver Canucks traded the 24-year-old netminder to the Pittsburgh Penguins, less than one month after he was named Most Valuable Player of the Calder Cup Playoffs.
“We would like thank Arturs for everything he has done for the hockey club, including helping Abbotsford win the Calder Cup. We wanted to give him an opportunity elsewhere as we feel we are very well positioned in goal at the NHL, AHL and developmental level. Acquiring a future pick and depth forward will add to our organizational depth.” Allvin said.

Among the teams to inquire about Arturs Silovs this summer was the Edmonton Oilers, as was reported by NHL insider Frank Seravalli and it looks like General Manager Stan Bowman could’ve offered a better package than what they ended up getting from Pittsburgh – Chase Stillman and a fourth round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.”Vancouver made it very clear they would not trade Arturs Silovs to the Edmonton Oilers.

The Edmonton Oilers are likely kicking themselves right now as they weren’t able to address their clear need for goaltending help in the offseason as both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard are sitting with a save percentage well below .900.
In 11 games this season with the Penguins, Silovs has a record of 4-3-4 with a 2.74 goals against average, a .907 save percentage and one shutout.
