A Detroit Red Wings prospect is currently leading the nation in points, putting himself under the spotlight ahead of the WJC and his journey toward the NHL.
Indeed, this season, the five-foot-ten left winger scored 26 points, including 13 goals, in only 15 games with the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
Last night, he had an outstanding performance, putting him under the spotlight in what could be his final collegiate season before making the jump with the pros.
Max Plante Scores Natural Hat Trick, Leads NCAA in Points
Max Plante was in action yesterday against Colorado College, and his night didn’t start the way he wanted when he received a five-minute penalty for a dangerous hit.
However, he bounced back in the best way possible, scoring a hat trick after his penalty:
Here’s what he had to say after the game:
“I don’t want to hit somebody like that from behind. I kind of got my hands up and he was in a vulnerable spot. It happened, I was sorry, I gave everyone knucks (knuckles) and told them thanks for killing it off.”
“Pregame skate, I feel like everything I was shooting was going in today. I thought if I can give myself some space and get some shots on net, sometimes you have those games where pucks find holes. Tonight was that night. Fortunate we got those opportunities.”
Plante will need to gain some muscle before being able to play in the NHL, but he has top-six potential, making him an interesting prospect to follow for Wings fans in the coming years, but also in the near future, as he is very likely to take part in the World Junior Championship this year with Team USA.
