Vancouver Canucks’ Offseason Move Coined as One of the Worst in the NHL

An offseason move made by Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has been coined as one of the worst in the National Hockey League early on in 2025-26 season.
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin made his fair share of moves during the offseason as he looked to land pieces he believed would help his group’s chances of returning to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2026.
While some of Vancouver’s offseason decisions have worked out in their favour, others haven’t and a trade that Patrik Allvin completed is being coined as one of the worst in the National Hockey League.

Just a few days before the NHL’s Entry Draft, the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers came together to complete a trade that saw Evander Kane return home to the Lower Mainland in exchange for a fourth round pick in 2027.
“With that said, I’m incredibly excited for the next chapter of my career as I join the @Canucks . It’s an honor to become part of an organization and team I grew up watching as a kid. Vancouver is a city that lives and breathes hockey, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of my hometown as I did many years ago as a Vancouver Giant.” Kane said on social media after the trade was completed.
“The Canucks acquired Kane from the Oilers for a fourth-rounder, so, like Joshua and the Leafs, the trade itself isn’t the problem. The issue is the lack of value Kane is providing relative to his sizable cap hit and premium role. Kane, 34, is making $5.125 million in the final season of a four-year deal and logging 18:07 a night alongside some of Vancouver’s top players. Yet he’s pitched in an underwhelming three goals and eight assists in 22 games. Not good enough.” John Matisz of theScore said.
With Vancouver on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture in the Western Conference and Evander Kane on an expiring contract, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if Patrik Allvin tries to offload him ahead of the trade deadline in early March.
