Former Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner‘s brutal giveaway in his own zone in overtime on Saturday results in a crushing loss for the Vegas Golden Knights.
Marner’s Major Blunder Costs Golden Knights an OT Loss
Now, there’s another reason to talk about Marner, thanks to a horrendous giveaway in front of his own net in overtime, which lost the Golden Knights their divisional game against the Anaheim Ducks.
The play came with 1:03 remaining in overtime as Marner attempted to wind the play up behind the net, firing a pass into a dangerous area, which was picked off by Ducks forechecker Cutter Gauthier, who spun and fired it in quick before Marner or the Golden Knights goaltender could react.
Marner’s body language said it all after the goal, as the star winger hunched over in disgust and hung his head in shame.
Leafs Also Lose in Embarrassing Fashion on Saturday
Unfortunately, Leafs Nation can’t really say much about this one, as the team was dismantled by the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night during the feature game of Hockey Night in Canada.
There’s no question that the team misses Marner this season, as he was one of their top offensive threats at 5v5 and on the power play, as well as their feature penalty killer.
