The Pittsburgh Penguins earned a point but were a miserable bunch Saturday night, and coach Dan Muse bared his teeth for the first time. We’ve got the actual game analysis on why everyone was so angry, Muse’s fiery reaction, and what general manager Kyle Dubas can do. Elsewhere in the Daily, the NHL trade rumors got a thundering jolt with some Andrei Svechnikov rumblings in Carolina, there was an old-school heavyweight fight in Montreal, and the Ottawa Senators are reportedly looking for a top-six winger.

We’re a little late today–the longer game, and I had to meander home on foot because there was no way in the world that I was going to brave traffic and parking on Light Up Night.

Although I hear a lot of people backed out of going downtown and it wasn’t quite the gong show that it’s been in past years. The North Side lots were full at 4 p.m. with … tailgaters?!

I love you guys. You’ll tailgate anything.

Also, our YouTube video is cranking away. You can see the Muse postgame presser and my nightly postgame breakdown. I’ll link to it below.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: It was a third period lead, and then it was another overtime loss. The Penguins have had bad luck in OT, and that continued, too. Here’s the Penguins recap.

A postgame takedown of the Penguins roster, some praise for a few stellar performances, locker room reaction, more on Dan Muse’s angry postgame presser, the full video, and what must be done by general manager Kyle Dubas. It was a must-read Penguins report card.

Saturday, we published our one-on-one with Muse. It was an insightful and engaging conversation that I greatly enjoyed. His ephiphany and what he was willing to do to get here, and how he handles himself, really told a lot about him. Here is our one-on-one with the Penguins coach.

Steelers Now: It’s game day, kids. The injury report, betting lines, how to watch, and everything else you need for today’s Steelers game.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: The Pirates tendered contracts to five arbitration-eligible players, so here’s some Pirates news.

And here’s the Penguins postgame recap.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet Video: I’ll make no secret that I think Elliotte Friedman has set a new standard in his role on HNIC. So, we’ve got more worries about the Olympic rink, Alexandre Texier hitting free agency today, and where he could land, as well as the bombshell that Andrei Svechnikov isn’t so happy in Carolina.

A talented winger unhappy in Carolina? That’s new.

Ottawa Sun: Bruce Garrioch reports that GM Steve Staios is “studying” the trade market. Ottawa wants a gritty top-six winger (yeah, them and everyone else), and is gearing up for a big splash.

Hockey Fights: No commentary needed. A brawl. Old school.

WiFi’s mother was not amused. His brother was. Sportsnet had the family reaction, but they only posted it on Facebook. So, I found an Instagram account with it. Mom is not amused.

TSN: Why are the Maple Leafs so bad? Craig Button just breaks them down like a disappointed parent, “Defensively, they’re terrible.” Button pounces on the Leafs.

New Jersey Hockey Now: Dan Muse wasn’t the only coach to kick his team Saturday. Sheldon Keefe ripped his team pretty good, too. James Nichols has everything and the anger from the top after the New Jersey Devils lost three in a row.

Florida Hockey Now: A Stanley Cup rematch, a Stanley Cup rematch. The Cup Final two years running had a regular season tilt, the banged-up Florida Panthers and the quickly stale and angry Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers got the W they needed in June, but not before a hearty Panthers comeback.
