Chicago Blackhawks vs. Colorado Avalanche Preview
Both the Blackhawks’ defense and goaltending (Arvid Soderblom) were atrocious in their 9-3 loss on Friday night. Tonight, the Blackhawks cannot make the same mistakes against the best team in the league. Spencer Knight will be in the net and still leads the league in goals saved above expected (14.2), and Jason Dickinson will be in the lineup tonight.
Knight will have a lot asked of him tonight. While it’s easy to shrug off the Buffalo game as a “it happens” kind of night, stringing a series of bad nights could set the stage for a rough stretch of hockey. The loss against the Seattle Kraken was annoying, the Sabres’ loss was ugly, and now it’s David vs. Goliath.

The Colorado Avalanche have one regulation loss this season with a 15-1-5 record. Nathan MacKinnon leads the league in points (37) and goals (17). Cale Makar leads all defensemen in points (28), goals (eight), and assists (20). Although unlikely, goaltender Scott Wedgewood is making a bid for Team Canada’s goaltending search with a .913 SV% (sixth best) and a 6.8 goals saved above expected (12th best). Colorado played last night, a shutout win against the Nashville Predators. Their eighth win in a row. Among Colorado’s injured are: Valeri Nichushkin, Joel Kiviranta, Logan O’Connor, Gavin Brindley, and Jacob MacDonald.
Strap in, Chicago, it could get ugly.
