Calgary Flames News and Notes:

The Calgary Flames have been a bottom-feeder to start off their 2025-26 campaign, logging the second fewest points this season, only surpassing the Nashville Predators last night with their win over the Dallas Stars. However, the Flames have a little bit of momentum coming off yesterday’s win as well as a dominant 6-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. Calgary has also been able to grab at least a point in four of their last five games, fixing up the issues that plagued them in their slow start to the season. They’re going to have to capitalize on this momentum in a very winnable game against their Western Canada rival in the Vancouver Canucks.

Vancouver Canucks News and Notes:

The Vancouver Canucks suffered a tough loss to one of the best teams in the National Hockey League, the Dallas Stars, on Thursday. The Canucks hung in there to the best of their abilities, but they came up short, losing 4-2. Canucks newcomer David Kampf made an impact in his second-ever game with the blue and green, not quite making it on the scoreboard but making his presence known with 2 hits and a blocked shot. He maintains his spot as the second line centre for an injury-depleted Canucks team after signing for just 1 year $1.1 million earlier this week. With a possible rebuild on the horizon, though, hockey fans are still wondering whether the Vancouver Canucks will get momentum and strive for a wild card spot or blow it up as we get closer and closer to the midpoint of the season.

Players to Watch:

Calgary Flames:

Calgary Flames’ newest top liner, Matt Coronato, has been on a tear as of late, scoring in his last four games. He did take a big hit from Mikko Rantanen last night in the second period against the Dallas Stars, so he may not be 100% going into tonight’s game against Vancouver, but he is still a hot hand that the Canucks are going to be guarding a little tighter. Veteran Nazem Kadri has been a steady base for the Flames as well, putting up five assists in his last three games. Kadri was also able to score the game-winner in the shootout last night to take down one of the top teams in the league

Vancouver Canucks:

The Vancouver Canucks’ prime time guys have been performing at an incredibly high rate as of late. Elias Pettersson stretches his point streak to five games in a row after scoring the second Canuck goal against the Dallas Stars on Thursday, while also notching three goals in the last two games. Kiefer Sherwood also extends his point streak on Thursday, assisting on the Pettersson goal, giving the Canucks a third player with over 15 points on the season, with Brock Boeser and Conor Garland right on that horizon as well. On the flip side, fourth liner Linus Karlsson grabs his second goal in the last three games after scoring the initial goal on Thursday, spreading out the offense in Vancouver.
