The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Alexandre Texier to a one-year, $1 million contract, agent Dan Milstein and TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun confirmed on Sunday.

Texier, 26, became a free agent on Sunday after the St. Louis Blues put him on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.

The 6-foot-1 winger had an assist in eight games with the Blues this year but hasn’t played since Nov. 6 and was assigned to the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds on Friday.

He was on the final season of a two-year, $4.2 million deal that carried a cap hit of $2.1 million.

St. Louis acquired Texier from the Columbus Blue Jackets in June of 2024 in exchange for a draft pick.

Drafted 45th overall by the Blue Jackets in 2017, Texier has 40 goals and 91 points in 240 career games split between the Blue Jackets and Blues.
