Seattle’s Kraken lost in a shootout to the Islanders, but the team brought excitement to Spokane with their Road Show Series, energizing fans across the Northwest.
SPOKANE, Wash. — After 65 minutes of scoreless hockey, we would go to a shootout. Freddy Gaudreau finally puts a puck in the net to give Seattle the advantage. Then, just as he did all game, Joey Daccord comes up huge with a save.
After three straight misses, Bo Horvat scores to tie it at 1. Then, after an Eeli Tolvanen miss, Kyle Palmieri beats Daccord and the Islanders win the shootout 2-1.
The crowd has definitely cleared out of here after the Kraken loss, but Flatstick Pub is always a lively setting for all things sports in Spokane and that was the same theme today.
Kraken leadership, Buoy, and even broadcasters from the Kraken Hockey Network were at Flatstick Pub. This is all a part of the Kraken’s Road Show Series where Buoy travels to other Pacific Northwest cities to meet fans outside of Seattle.Â
The fans KREM 2 talked to were pretty excited that the Kraken fun was here in Spokane.
“We are really excited about growing our fanbase in Spokane, but all over the Pacific Northwest. So, anytime we have an opportunity, it’s to bring some of the Kraken energy and fun to a city outside of Seattle, we jump at the chance,” said Kraken Senior Director for Fan Development Kyle Boyd.
This was just one of many stops this weekend in Spokane for the Kraken Leadership Team. Buoy, the Kraken mascot, got to hang out with the Spokane Chiefs’ Boomer the Bear Saturday at the Free Hockey Clinic that was open for the community and made an appearance at last night’s Chiefs game.
“I just looked over and Buoy just gave me this huge kiss that enveloped my face. Strangely comforting, but overall, it’s pretty awesome to see Buoy raising everyone’s spirits. he got in my brother’s face with the goal shutdown. It was great,” said Nathan Sims.
Now the Kraken craziness doesn’t stop yet. A little birdie tells KREM 2 that Buoy will make a stop to meet the Up With KREM morning team on Monday. Don’t forget to tune in!
Then, Buoy will be stopping at Regal Elementary, Hamblen Elementary and Ridgeline High School to hang out with some Spokane students.Â
Still a lot to look forward to for Seattle Hockey in Spokane.
