This is something that all fans of the Dallas Stars want. It’s also something hockey fans in general want to see again. The return of the forest green, and gold. The jersey used between 1998 and 2007 NHL seasons.
Tribute nights
From Jere Lehtinen to Sergei Zubov to Joe Nieuwendyk, the Stars always wore the throwback jerseys for the tributes and during the warmups. Fans got to see the iconic colors on the ice before game play started. Fans are one day hoping to see it return. At least as an alternate.
Stars Nation is hoping that Nieuwendyk’s recent celebration night is a sign that the classic design, and color scheme makes a return one day soon. Best bet would be for the 2027 Stadium Series home game in Arlington.
Fans will buy them up
Stars fans have been wanting to see these jerseys return to the ice since the 2007 Reebok rebrand. All you have to do is go on the Internet whether it’s social media, YouTube, Reddit, and anywhere else to see people begging for the return of the old jerseys. Even people who aren’t Stars fans want to see it’s return.
Many of those people would be happy if only just the color scheme, or vintage design made a comeback. It would be a hit amongst Dallas, and NHL casuals alike. With respect to the neon greens, which are the current alternates, which are well liked by everybody, fans still want to see the classic design return.
They were close 3 years ago
When the NHL released their line of reverse retros for all 32 teams for the 2022-2023 season, the Stars did at least bring back the old design. Stars’ owner Tom Gaglardi isn’t a fan of the old color scheme. The Stars have repeatedly thumbed the nose at those old colors since Gaglardi purchased the team in 2011, and took over two years later. To Gaglardi’s credit, the Stars have won a lot more than they have lost since the dark ages, and the bankruptcy times of 2009-2013.

Hopefully one day, even if it’s for a one time event outdoors the Stars can give their fans a modern day green and gold vintage Stars jersey. After all, when the Stars lifted the Stanley Cup in 1999 they were sporting those threads. In the meantime Stars fans can always dig through their closet, or go on eBay to get their vintage fix.
