It was a mixed bag of results over the weekend as both area junior hockey teams were in action. The St. Cloud Norsemen had just one game, which was on the road in Mason City, Iowa, while the Granite City Lumberjacks had two games, against two different teams on the road. Here’s a recap of the weekend, and a look at what’s ahead for the post-Thanksgiving weekend.

St. Cloud Norsemen Get A Much-Needed ‘W’

The St. Cloud Norsemen were in action Saturday night in Mason City, Iowa, taking on the North Iowa Bulls. The Norsemen skated away with a win, making the long drive back a little more pleasant. The final score on Saturday night was 4-2. Scoring for the Norsemen were:

The Norsemen will be at home at the MAC this weekend with games on both Friday and Saturday. Friday night, the Norsemen welcome in the Minnesota Mallards for a 7:00pm game. On Saturday night, game time is at 6:30pm, and the Norsemen welcome the Austin Bruins to the MAC.

Granite City Lumberjacks Drop First Two Games Of The Season

The undefeated run is over for the Granite City Lumberjacks. They lost both Friday and Saturday, putting their overall record at 16-2 on the year.

On Friday night, the ‘Jacks lost in Alexandria to the Blizzard in a I-94 rivalry game, 4-2. The team didn’t have much time to dwell on the loss as they were back on the road the next night.

On Saturday, the Lumberjacks were in Blaine taking on the 2nd place Minnesota Moose, which handed the Lumberjacks their 2nd consecutive loss of the season, falling 6-3. The Moose now sit 2 points behind the Lumberjacks in the standings.

The Lumberjacks have a Wednesday night home game, taking on the Willmar Warhawks. Game time from the Miller Buick GMC Rink is set for 7:30pm. The Lumberjacks are then on the road on Saturday as they are set to face off against the Minnesota Moose in Blaine. Game time Saturday night is 7:10pm.

After having spent the greater part of the last three weeks outside Minnesota, it has been great to be back. We live in a very beautiful part of the country. From the North Shore’s jagged cliffs to the rolling croplands of southern Minnesota and to the driftless area near Preston, our state is filled with beautiful sights.
