Logan Thompson will get an opportunity to quickly put his last start behind him.

Thompson was the first goaltender off the ice at the Washington Capitals’ morning skate, meaning he will be in net against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night. In Thompson’s last start on Saturday, he gave up four goals on just six shots against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and was pulled for Charlie Lindgren in the first period.

After a sparkling start to the season, Thompson has given up four or more goals in three of his last four starts. He is just 3-3-1 in November with a 3.15 goals-against average and a .882 save percentage. Overall on the season, he is 8-6-1 with a 2.24 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.

Thompson has already beaten the Blue Jackets once this season, making 34 saves on 35 shots in a 5-1 victory on October 24. According to MoneyPuck, he is still in the top five among all goalies in goals saved above expected (10.7).

The 28-year-old backstop has not won back-to-back starts since that win against Columbus last month. He may see a weakened Blue Jackets team on Monday, as the club’s leading scorer, Kirill Marchenko, reportedly suffered an injury during their morning skate, and his status for the game is unknown.

Elvis Merzlikins will oppose Thompson in the other net. Merzlikins is 4-4-0 this season with a 3.37 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. The Latvian netminder has just one win in seven career appearances (1-4-1) against the Capitals.
