The Blue Jackets might be without star forward Kirill Marchenko when they face the Washington Capitals on Nov. 24 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Marchenko, who leads the team in scoring with 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists, left midway through the team’s Nov. 24 morning skate with an “apparent injury,” according to Jeff Svoboda of the team’s web site.

Blue Jackets coach Dean Evason told reporters covering the skate that Marchenko was being evaluated to see whether he could play against the Capitals.

Yegor Chinakhov moved up into Kirill Marchenko’s spot after Marchy left practice. It could be another big opportunity for Chinakhov if Marchenko can’t go. #CBJ https://t.co/gfYVgy2Pcs

Specifics haven’t been reported about Marchenko’s health issue. If he can’t play in Washington, look for Yegor Chinakhov to join the top forward line to play with Dmitri Voronkov and center Adam Fantilli.

The Dispatch did not receive an immediate response from Blue Jackets president/general manager Don Waddell after sending an inquiry about Marchenko’s status. Losing him would be a tough blow for the Blue Jackets to absorb after they’ve leaned on Marchenko heavily in the first 22 games.

Elvis Merzlikins will get the start in net for the Blue Jackets (11-8-3) in Washington.
