Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy took a puck to the face during his game vs. the Canadiens, and his wife has now shown the results of his facial surgery.

The moment that led to Charlie McAvoy’s unfortunate situation

He absorbed a one-timer from Montreal Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson, with the puck catching him just beneath his visor in a truly unsettling moment.

McAvoy was down on the ice for several tense seconds before he was able to get off under his own power. The Bruins later confirmed he underwent facial surgery, and he has yet to return to action.

The update that everyone has been waiting for

Updates on his recovery have been few and far between, until an unexpected source provided one Sunday night.

McAvoy’s wife, Kiley, just provided a rare update on his status via her Instagram story. She shared the first photo of McAvoy since the injury; he is seated with their young son, Rhys Michael McAvoy, against what appears to be a hospital backdrop.

“These past few weeks have been really tough for our family.”

Considering the severity of the impact and the type of surgery involved, McAvoy is in incredibly good form.

That is an encouraging sign not only for Bruins fans, but more importantly for the McAvoy family. Let’s hope the two McAvoy’s continue healing quickly and fully in the days ahead and that Charlie returns to his team’s lineup without any further setbacks.
