The Pittsburgh Penguins’ whirlwind day wasn’t concluded, even after rookie center Tristan Broz made his debut at a regular-season practice.
Monday, the Penguins signed 2025 second-round pick (39th overall) Peyton Kettles to his entry-level contract. Kettles played five games in the WHL this season (split between Swift Current and Kelowna), but needed shoulder surgery. The operation was performed Friday by team physician Dr. Dharmesh Vyas.
The expected recovery time is six to seven months.
Kettles, 18, had one goal, two assists, and was plus-2 in his five games this season. Last season, the 6-foot-5, 196-pound right-handed defender had 14 points (5-9-14) in 53 games for Swift Current.
The Winnipeg native also won a gold medal with Team Canada in 2025 at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Kettles was a projected third-rounder in the draft, but the Penguins selected him early in the second. Kettles has size, and scouts saw him as a shutdown defender.
