Columbus Blue Jackets defenceman Zach Werenski and forward Mathieu Olivier left their team’s game against the Washington Capitals with upper-body injuries and did not return, the team announced on Monday.

Werenski, 28, skated 17:36 after the first two periods, recording four shots and a block but did not return to the bench after the second intermission.

The 6-foot-2 left-shot blueliner is third among defencemen in scoring with seven goals and 21 points this season while averaging 26:50 of ice time.

Werenski is coming off a career season in 2024-25, registering 23 goals and 82 points in 81 games and finishing third in Norris Trophy voting.

Olivier, 28, only skated 4:49 before leaving the game with the injury.

The 6-foot-1 winger has three goals and nine points in 22 games this season.

Entering Monday’s action, the Blue Jackets were sixth in the Metropolitan Division with an 11-8-3 record.
