The Chicago Blackhawks have one major storyline dominating the front office right now, securing a long-term extension for franchise superstar Connor Bedard. As the 20-year-old phenom continues to put up elite numbers in his third NHL season, his price tag is rising by the day. And according to a stunning new report, the Blackhawks may have to hand out one of the most significant contracts in NHL history to keep him in Chicago.
Despite Bedard technically being eligible to become a UFA after this year, all signs indicate both sides will get an extension done. But the real shock is how massive the deal could be. NHL insider Frank Seravalli believes Bedard’s next contract may land between $100 million and $120 million over eight years, a number that would break franchise records and place him among the highest-paid players in the league.

Frank Seravalli didn’t hold back when laying out what Bedard could command on an eight-year deal.
“If we’re talking about an eight-year deal, Connor Bedard is likely to land somewhere between $12.5–15 million a year. Yes, a relatively big spread at this point and time, but it helps us get the goal posts somewhere between $100 million and $120 million over the term of the deal,” said NHL insider Frank Seravalli.
He added that Chicago should have no problem handling such a massive cap hit:
“I think the Chicago Blackhawks are going to be relatively comfortable knowing the salary cap is increasing in a significant way.”

That’s a key detail. The NHL cap is expected to jump aggressively over the next several seasons, giving Chicago flexibility to pay Bedard superstar money while still building around him.
Right now, the Blackhawks have almost $20 million in available cap space (via PuckPedia), and with most of their roster still young and inexpensive, this is the perfect window for GM Kyle Davidson to finalize a mega-deal.
And Bedard’s performance? It only strengthens his case.
Connor Bedard’s explosive season is already driving his price higher

The Blackhawks are off to their best start since 2020, and Bedard is the biggest reason why. With 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 21 games, he is on pace for a 121-point season. That includes a projected 51 goals and 70 assists, numbers reserved for the NHL’s most elite forwards.
His production places him tied for third in the entire league, trailing only Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid. He’s right alongside fellow rising star Macklin Celebrini and well ahead of many established NHL veterans.
On a rebuilding Chicago roster, Bedard isn’t just shining; he’s carrying the offense. Frank Nazar, Artyom Levshunov, and Andre Burakovsky have provided support, but Bedard is the player driving results night after night.
Every time he scores, every highlight-reel moment, and every game-changing shift push his value higher. And as the numbers keep rising, so does the cost, which is precisely why Seravalli’s projection of $12.5–15 million per year is gaining traction.
For the Blackhawks, this isn’t just paying for production. It’s paying for a franchise cornerstone. The centerpiece of the rebuild. The future captain. The player was expected to lead Chicago back into contention.
