One game after putting up a season-high six goals, there were none to be found on Monday night. Andrei Vasilevskiy looked like his usual self, and the Tampa Bay Lightning clamped down on the Flyers for much of the night.
The end result was a 3-0 defeat to open a four-game road trip.
The Lightning got on the board first at 15:34 of the first period. A point shot by Emil Lilleberg was deflected by Brandon Hagel for his 10th goal of the season. It marked the eighth straight game the Flyers have allowed the first goal.
Through 20 minutes, shots were 7-5 Tampa Bay.
In the second, the Lightning added to the lead with four minutes to play. Off a transition rush, Hagel set up Anthony Cirelli for a tip-in for his ninth goal of the season.
Through two periods, shots were 12-11 Tampa Bay.
The Flyers managed another nine shots in the third, but never solved Vasilevskiy. Hagel added an empty-net goal in the final seconds to seal the result.
Vasilevskiy made 20 saves in the shutout win. Sam Ersson made 15 saves on 17 shots in the loss.
Hagel had three points. Nikita Kucherov had three assists. Cirelli had two points.
The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday night against the Florida Panthers at 7 p.m.
