Elliotte Friedman released an eye-opening report involving the Vancouver Canucks’ trade intentions, presenting an interesting opportunity to the Detroit Red Wings.

This season is once again turning out to be a tough one for the Vancouver Canucks. After a rocky year in 2024-25, the team wanted to bounce back, but it hasn’t happened so far.

Indeed, 23 games into the regular calendar, the Canucks are seventh in the Pacific Division with a 9-12-2 record, only a point above the Calgary Flames at the last spot in the division.

Yzerman Could Capitalize On Canucks Looking To Trade Veterans

Friedman reported that the Canucks let teams know that they want to get younger and are now willing to listen to offers for a few veteran players.

He also added that the Canucks don’t want to tear the whole team down, but potential UFAs and a player or two with term could end up leaving the organization.

Finally, the insider highlighted the Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford’s track record: when he wants to move, he usually acts quickly, with many trades going down before the NHL deadline in past years.

Stay tuned for further updates on that matter.
