San Jose Sharks forward Tyler Toffoli did not practice on Tuesday due to illness.
Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky told reporters that he’s unsure if the veteran winger will travel and should be considered questionable for Wednesday’s game.
Vincent Iorio was recalled from his conditioning loan with the San Jose Barracuda on Monday. The Sharks return to having nine defensemen on their active roster. Replacing Toffoli could be difficult, but Warsofsky expects the team to dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen if Toffoli can’t play.
“There’s pros, there’s cons, and there’s challenges with 11-7,” Warsofsky said. “We’ve seemed to do okay at times with it, so it is what it is.”

John Klingberg and Nick Leddy were healthy scratches against the Boston Bruins on Sunday, and could return to the lineup as the team’s 7th d-man. Klingberg took repetitions through the second power play unit during San Jose Sharks practice on Tuesday.

Warsofsky said Toffoli just started to feel bad today, and that this illness hasn’t lingered.
The Sharks forward had also been dealing with an upper-body injury. It is unclear what the status of that is, given that he has told reporters he’s fine.
Warsofsky says that Toffoli has been dealing with this issue for about the last 5 days.

Warsofsky also wouldn’t commit to whether the Sharks will be recalling a forward from the AHL if Toffoli is forced to miss Wednesday’s game.
“We’ll see. I’ll talk to Mike [Grier], and we’ll go from there,” Warsofsky said.
