It was a prolific, and historic, first 20 minutes for the Dallas Stars.
The Stars jumped all over the Edmonton Oilers and goalie Stuart Skinner out of the gate on Tuesday to the tune of a 4-0 first-period lead against the team that has knocked them out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs the last two seasons.
The goal that started it all was a milestone marker for the team’s captain, as Jamie Benn got the Stars on the board with goal No. 400 off a pass from Wyatt Johnston.

Dallas’ 1-0 lead held into the second half of the period before the floodgates really opened, starting with a Roope Hintz rebound to make it 2-0.
Five minutes later it was winger Nathan Bastian, in his first season with the Stars, tallying his second goal of the year to extend the lead to 3-0.
Then things got silly with the Stars’ fourth goal of the period, which was nearly career goal No. 401 for Benn. Instead it was Sam Steel slamming it home to cap off the 4-0 first peiod.
The two-time defending Western Conference champion Oilers aren’t off to the best of starts in 2025. They’re currently sitting at 10-9-5, five points behind Dallas in the conference standings.
The Stars and Oilers have already played once this season, though their first matchup came down to a shootout.
