Detroit Historical Museum celebrates Red Wings centennial with new exhibit

  • November 26, 2025

DETROIT – Hey Hockeytown — the Detroit Red Wings centennial celebrations continue at Detroit Historical Museum with a new exhibit, ‘Detroit Red Wings at 100: Becoming Hockeytown.’

The exhibit highlights the excitement of the Red Wings Centennial by showcasing championship seasons, iconic players and many historic moments from the team’s storied past.

Visitors can explore three galleries — the City of Champions Gallery, the Motor City Showcase, and the Detroit Artists Showcase, featuring rare artifacts from the museum, the team’s archives, and the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Visitors can also see uniforms worn by Red Wings legends, including the famed Grind Line and the Russian Five.

Vintage audio and video clips bring to life some of the greatest moments in Red Wings history.

A special spotlight honors every Red Wings player who has had his number retired — offering fans a chance to reflect on the team’s most celebrated athletes.

For younger visitors, the exhibit offers interactive opportunities like posing in lockers modeled after those in Olympia Stadium.

Fans can also see the original goal lights from Joe Louis Arena and hear the iconic organ music from Olympia Stadium.
