Scott Wedgewood could be an option for Team Canada at the upcoming Winter Olympics. The Vancouver Canucks fire sale might be on its way soon. Also, another depth piece has been a great fit in Florida.

All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — November 26.

Colorado Hockey Now

Team Canada needs Scott Wedgewood. There, I said it.

Wedgewood’s hot start to the season isn’t a mirage. When he started to rack up wins in October, it felt like a hot stretch. But it’s not that.

It’s a 33-year-old veteran goalie who studies the game enough to handle high-pressure situations when needed. The Avalanche needed him to be the starter when training camp began. They needed him to step in as the starter for most of the first month of the season.

He did all of that. And he’s sporting a sparkling 13-1-2 record and .918 save percentage in the process.

Team Canada needs someone like that. Someone who knows what it’s like to play in a pinch. Someone who has the intangibles in the room and the focus on the ice to be a factor. Someone who can handle all of that, while also knowing how to feed off Cale Makar and Devon Toews.

Hockey Canada made the first step towards making this a reality on Tuesday. Let’s see how the next five or so weeks play out.
