The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed forward Sammy Blais on waivers Wednesday as the team’s activated Auston Matthews and Nicolas Roy off injured reserve.

While Blais hit waivers, the team assigned Jacob Quillan to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies to clear an additional roster spot.

Blais, 29, has one goal and two assists in eight games with the Maple Leafs this season.

He was claimed off waivers from the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 6 after signing a one-year deal as a free agent with the team on July 1.

The Maple Leafs have activated F Auston Matthews and F Nicolas Roy from IR.

A sixth-round pick (176th overall) by St. Louis in 2014, Blais helped the Blues win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2019.

Last season, he helped the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks capture the Calder Cup. He had 14 goals and 40 points in 51 games last season with Abbotsford.

Internationally, he helped Canada win gold at the 2023 World Championships with six goals and two assists in 10 games.

The Montmagny, Que., native has appeared in 265 career NHL games, scoring 28 goals with 74 points, split between the Blues, New York Rangers and Maple Leafs.
