The Detroit Red Wings should explore the idea of making a late free agency addition of a former fan favorite forward, according to a new report.

However, there’s no doubt that the team still has things to improve.

Indeed, a new report shed light on how the Wings must improve their depth scoring and could do so by bringing a former member of the team back to Detroit.

Red Wings Must Consider Bringing Back Free Agent Forward

The team has great production from the top line, who scored 31 goals and 74 points this season. The rest of the team combined for 108 points, including 31 goals, showing that the top three players are producing nearly as much as the rest of the team.

According to a report, the Wings could consider bringing back Robby Fabbri to the team.

Fabbri was deemed a low-risk, potentially high-reward move for Steve Yzerman.

The 29-year-old forward is currently a free agent, having not signed a contract since his previous three-year, $4M AAV deal expired at the end of the 2024-25 season.

In 442 NHL games, Fabbri tallied 106 goals and 110 assists in four seasons with the St. Louis Blues, five with the Detroit Red Wings, and another one with the Anaheim Ducks.

The biggest risk for the Wings if they were to acquire him is his injury count. The player suffered many massive injuries in his career, and he doesn’t have the same speed he had.

That being said, it could be a small risk that Yzerman is willing to take.
