The Oilers are in desperate need of a change in net, and now, it appears as though they’re showing interest in Penguins veteran Tristan Jarry.

The Edmonton Oilers entered the 2025/26 campaign looking to get back to the Stanley Cup Finals for a third straight season, and while they’ve been notoriously slow starters in recent years, this season feels different.

Over the summer, the Oilers lost several key veterans, and with a record of 10-10-5 through their first 25 games, but as of right now, goaltending still remains their biggest issue.

Oilers targeting a top Penguins veteran

There’s already been major reports that the Oilers are targeting St. Louis Blues veteran and former Stanley Cup winner Jordan Binnington, but now, it appears as though they’ve got their eyes on another veteran.

According to reports from Kevin Weekes, the Oilers have their eyes on Penguins veteran Tristan Jarry as one of many goaltenders they could look to acquire after the dreadful start from the duo of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

This off-season, the Penguins were still hoping to rely on Jarry’s experience in the NHL to lead them forward, but with Arturs Silovs taking a step up much quicker than expected, it appears as though he’s now expendable.

Sure, he’s not got the pedigree of a Binnington in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but Jarry has appeared in 300 games at the NHL level and another 8 in the post-season, and while his contract isn’t an easy one to take on, it will be much easier to acquire him than the Blues star.

Whether it’s Binnington, Jarry or another goaltender, the Oilers simply need to make a change, and with the team giving up 8 goals again on Wednesday, the longer it takes, the more strained the hopes and optimism of their fanbase and the franchise becomes.
