The Colorado Avalanche are red hot.
That was a given going into Wednesday night’s game against the San Jose Sharks, and it was more of the same at Ball Arena in a 6-0 blowout win. Colorado was up 5-0, only 25 minutes into the contest, and this was a laugher on Thanksgiving eve.
The Avalanche got goals from six different players, including Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen and improved to a ridiculous 17-1-5 on the season. Colorado has won 10 games in a row, and the triumph over the Sharks marked their third consecutive shutout.
Mackenzie Blackwood made 26 saves against his old team and posted his second shutout in a row, also blanking the Predators on Saturday night in Nashville. Three straight shutouts in the NHL is rare, something the Avalanche haven’t done since November of 2001.
The @Avalanche tied a franchise record with their 3rd consecutive shutout

The last time any team in the league accomplished the feat was the New York Rangers back in April of 2022, so Colorado did something that hasn’t been achieved in more than three years.
There’s a lot of hockey left and a long way to go, but the Avalanche have 39 points and could threaten Boston’s 135 points a couple seasons back for the most in NHL history.
It might still be November, but this team is playing must-watch hockey every single time they take the ice. While everyone is focused on trying to win another Stanley Cup, the regular season could be historic and in some senses already has been.
The Avalanche will look for a fourth straight shutout on Friday against Minnesota. And right now, anything feels possible.
