The Chicago Blackhawks saw a promising effort go unrewarded Wednesday night, suffering a 4-3 overtime loss to the surging Minnesota Wild at the United Center.
The defeat stretched Chicago’s losing streak to four games, despite outshooting and out-chancing Minnesota for large portions of the contest.
Second-Period Surge Gives Hawks Early Edge
The opening frame featured strong goaltending at both ends, with Chicago posting a 20-5 shot advantage but unable to break through. The dam finally burst early in the second when Jason Dickinson pounced on a loose puck and fired home an unassisted goal to put the Blackhawks on top.
Not long after, Connor Bedard capped off a flashy tic-tac-toe sequence for a 2-0 Chicago lead, finishing off slick passes from Tyler Bertuzzi and Sam Rinzel.

Minnesota responded late in the period, as Brock Faber’s shot deflected off Bertuzzi and looped over Spencer Knight to trim the deficit to 2-1 with just 13.6 seconds left in the frame.
See-Saw Battle Down the Stretch
The Wild carried their momentum into the third, tying things up on Nico Sturm’s deflection, his first goal of the season, early in the period. The Blackhawks struck right back as rookie Artyom Levshunov scored his first career NHL goal, burying a backhand off a centering feed from Bedard to push Chicago ahead 3-2.
Minnesota found another answer as Matt Boldy leveled the game at 3-3 midway through the third, capitalizing on a pass from Jonas Brodin. The Blackhawks dominated stretches of the game and had the better of late chances, especially when Bedard hit the post twice during a late power play.
Overtime Turns on a Controversial Call
Just 53 seconds into overtime, Chicago’s Ilya Mikheyev was called for interference, giving the Wild a 4-on-3 power play.
Minnesota wasted little time capitalizing, as Kirill Kaprizov rifled home the game-winner just 1:38 into the extra frame, his 14th of the season and 12th career overtime tally.
Key Performers
Connor Bedard continued his impressive rookie campaign with a goal, an assist, and several near-misses on the power play.
Jason Dickinson opened the scoring with his hustle on the puck.
Artyom Levshunov made his mark with his first NHL goal and a solid defensive effort.
Spencer Knight stopped 20 of 24 shots in net for Chicago.
On the Wild side, Matt Boldy (one goal, two assists) and Brock Faber (one goal, one assist) delivered multi-point nights, while Filip Gustavsson held the fort with 34 saves.
Game Notes
Chicago had a potential goal overturned for offside in the second period, and Minnesota’s Marcus Foligno left with an injury late in the second. The Hawks, missing Andre Burakovsky for a third game, continued to face adversity with limited offensive depth.
Despite the loss, the Blackhawks showed flashes of cohesion and outplayed Minnesota in many phases, finishing with a 37-24 advantage in shots. Still, they could not solve Gustavsson enough to halt their skid.
