Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube Addresses Max Domi’s Status for Game 6 in Florida

After a back-breaking loss in Game 5 on home ice, Leafs head coach Craig Berube admitted to a tough lineup decision involving Max Domi ahead of Game 6 in Florida.The Toronto Maple Leafs slumped to an embarrassing 6-1 defeat against the Florida Panthers in Game 5. A lot went wrong from start to finish and it sounds like there could be repercussions for certain players heading into Friday night’s pivotal Game 6.
After the game, head coach Craig Berube was asked about Max Domi’s lack of discipline in crunch time and whether or not he has to consider sitting him with the season on the line. While it’s a massive gamble, the Leafs’ bench boss admits he has to give it some thought.
“It’s definitely an issue that we’ve got to talk about and discuss and figure out what we’re going to do there.”
Domi was assessed 18 PIMs in total with 14 of them coming at the very end, which included a 10-minute misconduct. However, he was also assessed two separate minor penalties for slashing and holding in the second and third periods, respectively.
While the Panthers didn’t score on either one of his minor penalties, his first infraction was unnecessary with the Leafs down 3-0 and attempting a push midway through the game and his second infraction cut their power play short to start the third.
With the Leafs now on the brink of elimination, Berube will have to look within and figure out if bigger changes are required. Swapping out fourth liners wasn’t a big enough move to get them back in the win column and the last thing they need are ill-advised penalties on the road against a dangerous power play unit in Florida. Domi has played a huge role in that, and as such, a tough decision is warranted.
