A former Detroit Red Wing forward is reportedly looking to return to the NHL after failing to grab a PTO opportunity in training camp.
Today, the same insider revealed that another player is attempting to make a return: the former Detroit Red Wings forward Robby Fabbri.
Ex-Wings Robby Fabbri Eyeing NHL Return
Fabbri was offered a professional tryout contract by Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins to join the team in training camp.
On X, Friedman confirmed that Robby Fabbri is currently skating with the Windsor Spitfires in the OHL as he looks to sign a contract with an NHL organization:
Fabbri, 29, scored 216 points, including 106 goals, in 442 NHL games for the St. Louis Blues, Red Wings, and Anaheim Ducks.
He even won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019.
“Detroit Reunion Still Makes Sense
Fabbri’s name has recently resurfaced in Detroit Red Wings circles, as multiple reports suggest Steve Yzerman should consider bringing the 29-year-old back to help strengthen depth scoring.”
The main concern with Fabbri has been his health. Over the years, he suffered three ACL tears, forcing him to miss significant time.
Still, in 2023-24, he had one of the best seasons of his career, scoring 18 goals and 14 assists in 68 games.
Fabbri will be a low-cost acquisition, and his potential makes him an interesting target for teams with not a lot of cap space looking to add depth to their forward group, such as the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, or Red Wings.
