In surprising news, the Detroit Red Wings have two players who are considered to be falling off the candidacy for Team USA’s projected Olympic roster.
We’re now two months from the 2026 Olympic Games taking place in Milano-Cortina, and the teams should be working on finalizing their roster choices.
There was an expectation that there would be multiple Detroit Red Wings forwards in the team’s lineup.
But with the latest update from Bleacher Report, the projected roster doesn’t seem to be kind to players who haven’t been able to keep up the production.
Patrick Kane, who has scored 13 points (3-10) and suffered through injury this season, seems to have fallen off B/R’s radar, along with Alex DeBrincat, who scored 26 points (12-24).
Bleacher Report’s Projected Lineup for Team USA’s Olympic Roster: Dylan Larkin included, Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat falling off candidacy.
The Bleacher Report’s projections are what we should expect.
The first two lines are as follows:
Brady Tkachuk – Jack Eichel – Matthew Tkachuk
Jason Robertson – Auston Matthews – Jack Hughes
While the names above shouldn’t surprise us, given that Matthew Tkachuk is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and Jack Eichel is one with the Vegas Golden Knights. Team USA wouldn’t be right without them.
Kyle Connor – Dylan Larkin – Matt Boldy
The same can be said for Dylan Larkin, who has scored 26 points (13-13) in 24 games this season with the Red Wings. Larkin will center Kyle Connor and Matt Boldy, who could be a dynamic line for Team USA.
Boldy has scored 13 goals and 25 points this season, while Connor has scored 11 and 25 points.
It’d be a consistent line with Larkin driving the plays for Team USA as an elite forward in the lineup.
All three players can score off the rush, and it is an enticing notion for GM Bill Guerin, who wants one back after losing for Team Canada during the Four Nations Face-Off.
