The Vancouver Canucks have reportedly set a very high asking price for pending unrestricted free agent Kiefer Sherwood after placing him on the trade block.

The moves comes amid Vancouver’s difficult start to the 2025-26 season and the Canucks are hoping by making these players available, they’ll be able to get younger and potentially restart their competitive window by keeping their big names around like Elias Pettersson, Brother Boeser among others.

Sherwood will undoubtedly garner the most interest of anyone on Vancouver’s roster leading up to the trade deadline, other than Quinn Hughes if he’s made available, and a new report out this week highlights how high the Canucks value the Columbus, Ohio native and what they’re seeking in return in any deal involving him.

During an appearance on The Sheet with Jeff Marek on Friday, National Hockey League insider David Pagnotta revealed that the Vancouver Canucks are seeking a first round pick and another asset for Kiefer Sherwood.

“I am hearing it’s a first round pick plus for Kiefer Sherwood.” Pagnotta said.

It’s unclear if the Vancouver Canucks are going to be able to find a dance partner that’s willing to pay that asking price for Kiefer Sherwood, but it’s possible with the amount of teams that are expected to show interest, which could lead to a bidding war.

Among the teams that may have interest in trading for Kiefer Sherwood is the Boston Bruins, who could use some more physicality and depth scoring in their lineup as they look to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after missing out back in the spring.

Aside from Boston, it’s safe to say that every contending team, and even those on the playoff bubble, will show varying levels of interest in Kiefer Sherwood between now and 12 p.m. PT on Friday, March 6th, but seeing how Patrik Allvin & Jim Rutherford operate, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if a trade is completed involving the 30-year-old winger before the league’s holiday roster freeze, which goes into effect on December 20th.

In 25 games this season for the Canucks, Sherwood has 16 points (12 goals, four assists), 16 penalty minutes and is a minus-five while averaging a career-high 17:39 of ice time per night.
