MonkeyPuck has linked the Edmonton Oilers, who badly need a goaltending upgrade, to Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll as a potential option to consider while noting his manageable AAV.

Both the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs have been struggling in recent weeks, and for the Oilers, the problems that have hounded them in net are continuing.

The combination of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard continue to fall short of what the Oilers need to realistically go on another deep playoff run, and they’ve been linked to various goaltenders in recent weeks.

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry has been listed as a recent potential possibility for the Oilers to consider, and now another name has been thrown into the hat.

Per MonkeyPuck, the Oilers could consider Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll and his manageable AAV (average annual value) of $3,666,667.

Woll missed the first several weeks of the Maple Leafs’ season when he was on personal leave. He returned to the team earlier this month, but his stats still leave some to be desired.

He’s currently the starter thanks to the injury to Anthony Stolarz, but Woll has gone 2-3-1 with a 2.80 GAA. He’s still under contract for another two years beyond this one.

The Oilers Goaltending Continues To Not Get The Job Done

The Oilers continue to struggle with their consistency this year as the tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard continue to not get the job done.

Both Skinner and Pickard are pending UFAs, and right now, there’s been zero indication about potential contract extensions for either of them.

On the other hand, Woll is still under contract for another two years and could be a solution for what the Oilers badly need – an upgrade between the pipes.

If Edmonton has any realistic plans on going on another deep postseason run, they need better goaltending, and Woll could be an interesting option for GM Stan Bowman to consider.
