Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has scored three goals in the last 24 hours.

That took his total from two goals on the season to five, as the Avalanche blasted the Montreal Canadiens 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Ball Arena.

One day after Landeskog helped Colorado get a point in Minnesota with a late goal to tie the game, the Avalanche had no trouble back on their home ice. Landeskog scored twice, Brock Nelson added two goals, Devon Toews got his first of the season and Nathan MacKinnon and Brent Burns found the back of the net as well.

Landeskog’s first goal, initially awarded to Nelson, made it 2-0 Colorado in the first period. His second, icing on the cake at the end, was vintage Landeskog. He showed off his unbelievable hand-eye coordination for a tip-in tally.

The Avalanche are now 18-1-6 on the year and have 42 points. Their 10-game winning streak was snapped against the Wild, but Colorado immediately started a new one.

Goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made 21 saves and this one was never close. The Avs were up 5-1 after two periods and 6-1 early in the third before it became apparent both teams just wanted to exit the game healthy.

Colorado will be off for a couple of days before hosting Vancouver on Tuesday night in Denver. Seven goals feels notable, but right now for these Avs, it’s just another day at the office.

However, Landeskog heating up is the story of the day. The captain looks like himself and is no longer just an amazing story. He’s a key contributor on a championship contender.
