A National Hockey League insider has wondered if the Vancouver Canucks will end up making both of their goaltenders available on the trade market ahead of March 6th.
Reports have indicated that the Vancouver Canucks are not going to enter a full-on rebuild or tear their roster down completely, leading some to question who those “veteran players” are that the club has made available on the market.
There’s reportedly been some interest in forward Conor Garland, as there likely will be for Elias Pettersson and Tyler Myers, but it’s Vancouver’s goaltending duo of Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen that some are wondering about.
NHL insider wonders if Vancouver Canucks will make both goaltenders available for trade
Despite Thatcher Demko’s injury, the Vancouver Canucks are pretty lucky to have two goaltenders that are capable of being in the starters role in the National Hockey League and both him and Kevin Lankinen have been lights out at times for this franchise.
However, with several teams around the National Hockey League searching for goaltending help at the moment, including the Edmonton Oilers, NHL insider Irfaan Gaffar wonders if Thatcher Demko and/or Kevin Lankinen will be made available by Patrik Allvin.
“I think there is going to be a little bit of a goalie market here, and I’m wondering if one if not both of the Vancouver goalies are gonna be available.” Gaffar said on Wednesday’s edition of the DFO Rundown podcast with David Pagnotta.
Given Thatcher Demko’s aforementioned injury history and the AAV on his next deal coming in at $8.5 million, Patrik Allvin will likely have a tough time dealing him, leaving Kevin Lankinen as the only viable option in between the pipes that the Canucks could move, if they want and a strong showing leading up to March 6th, including at the 2026 Winter Olympics – if he makes Finland’s roster – will go a long way in determining if the Helsinki native will draw interest on the trade market.
