NHL Insider Jeff Marek has further explored the idea of the Detroit Red Wings making a trade for star defenseman Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks.

The Detroit Red Wings don’t have enough game changers in the lineup.

It’s a hurtful statement to some, but true. Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane, Dylan Larkin, and Moritz Seider are some meaningful names to build a team around.

However, when it comes to the rest of the blue line, the team is struggling to find productive and good support.

“Since there are no game changing stars available in free agency next summer and the team needs to take the next step do the Detroit Red Wings step up with a massive offer for Quinn Hughes in exchange for some of their high end young players/prospects? Pressure has to be huge”

What would it cost the Detroit Red Wings to acquire Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks?

Quinn Hughes could be the next big piece towards a Stanley Cup playoff run in the next few years, and while Steve Yzerman might have to pay handsomely for it, it could be worth it.

We could see one of the team’s top defensemen and an A-level prospect shipped to Vancouver for Quinn Hughes.

It’ll be a hefty price for one of the best Canucks players in recent decades.

Hughes has played a total of 454 games in the NHL and scored 431 points (61-370).
