Detroit Red Wings defenseman Axel-Sandin Pellikka got his first “Welcome to the NHL” moment on Saturday against the Boston Bruins, thanks to Tanner Jeannot.
In what was an agonizing game to watch for Detroit Red Wings fans, the game with the Boston Bruins got feisty quickly.
The night saw the two teams engage in several altercations as tensions flared with the Original Six organization fighting valiantly for a better spot in the Atlantic.
We saw both Moritz Seider and Mark Kastelic exchange blows in a tilt that was exciting.
Both teams would keep us on the edge of our seats as the hits piled up until the very end.
Though one big hit stuck out to us, in which Bruins forward Tanner Jeannot absolutely trashed defenseman Axel-Sandin Pellikka in a ruthless hit that could’ve broken him. A real “Welcome to the NHL” hit.
The defenseman who plays a huge role on the Detroit Red Wings’ second pair and 1st power play unit would try to give the team an advantage by dumping in the puck in the third period.
Sandin Pellikka would try to close the gap with the red line, and Jeannot wouldn’t allow it, lining him up for a monstrous check on the boards.
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Axel-Sandin Pellikka has been a bright spot for the team
The team has come to rely upon Axel-Sandin Pellikka in the team’s top four and has proven himself a great partner to defenseman Ben Chiarot.
This season, he’s played a total of 18:92 minutes per night and has played 26 games for the Red Wings this year.
He’s still learning the ropes in the NHL, but he managed to tally 6 points (2-4), with 2 of those points being power-play points.
It’d be hurtful if the Red Wings were to lose the talent that Sandin Pellikka has provided in his rookie season.
The former 17th overall pick isn’t done developing and could prove to be a great puck-moving defenseman who plays hard and battles in the defensive zone, providing great stick control.
